Your New Role:
Kempsey Shire Council is looking for a friendly, capable and community-minded Library Assistant to join our library team.
As a Library Assistant, you’ll play an important role in delivering welcoming, accessible and high-quality library services to the Kempsey Shire community. You’ll support customers with their information and technology needs, help maintain our library collections and contribute to programs, services and activities that encourage learning, connection and participation.
No two days will necessarily look the same. From helping a customer find their next great read, assisting someone with technology, managing library resources and supporting children's activities, to taking our services out into the community, you’ll be part of a team that makes a genuine difference.
In this role, you will:
- Provide friendly and responsive customer service, resolving customer enquiries, complaints and suggestions.
- Deliver day-to-day library services, including issuing and returning loans, shelving and tidying materials, managing holds and assisting with memberships.
- Help customers access and use library resources, digital services, mobile technologies and emerging technologies.
- Undertake administrative, database, record management and other tasks that support effective library operations.
- Assist with collection management, including monitoring, processing and cataloguing library resources.
- Support the coordination and delivery of Home Library Services.
- Assist with the promotion and delivery of library programs, resources and services to the community, both in the library and at community events.
- Assist with Inter Library Loans.
- Support children's and young adult activities and programs.
- Undertake relief library driving duties when required, using the Library van or similar vehicle.
- Work shifts as rostered, including Saturdays.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Team Leader Library.

About You:
You’re a friendly, community-minded person who enjoys connecting with people and making a positive difference in your local community. You’re passionate about providing welcoming, inclusive library services and helping people access information, learning, technology and opportunities to connect.
You’ll bring:
- Recent experience in a customer service role, with library experience highly regarded.
- A genuine enthusiasm for public libraries and the important role they play in supporting education, information, recreation and community connection.
- An interest in providing engaging and inclusive library services to children, young people and adults.
- Experience with administration, databases and/or records management.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and mobile technologies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also taking initiative and working independently.
- A willingness to learn, adapt and embrace new technologies and ways of delivering library services.
- A friendly, approachable and inclusive manner, with a strong commitment to providing excellent customer experiences.
- Higher School Certificate or equivalent.
- A current NSW Driver Licence.
- A current Working with Children Check
