Primary objective
Provision of reprocessing of dental reusable medical devices (RMD) and assisting in training and supervision of the Sterilising
Technicians; quality and compliance activities; assist with the electronic management and disposal of sterilising documentation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Reprocessing of dental RMD and the completion of all required documentation. Anticipating the requirements of surgeries and
prioritising workloads accordingly. Cleaning, maintenance and efficacy testing of all reprocessing equipment as required.
Appropriate record keeping in accordance with governing standards (AS/NZS 5369:2023) and policies.
2. Assistance with the delivery of information regarding dental RMD reprocessing practices to clinical staff.
3. Provision of supervision and mentoring to sterilisation technicians and other staff undertaking the reprocessing tasks of dental
RMD.
4. Compliance with National Infection Control Standards, Policies and Procedures to ensure patient and employee safety.
5. Support the Senior Sterilising Technician in the day to day running of in the reprocessing unit.
6. Assistance with auditing processes, quality assurance and compliance activities.
7. Identifying emerging issues and employ contingency plans and inform managers as necessary
8. Assist with the archiving, electronic management and disposal of records related to dental RMD reprocessing.
9. Initiating and actively participating in quality improvement initiatives.
10.Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A Certificate III in Sterilising Services with proven previous experience as a sterilising technician.
2. Thorough understanding and application of Australian Standard AS 5369:2023 and associated references within daily
sterilisation duties and quality processes.
3. Demonstrated high-level knowledge of contemporary reprocessing practices, including operation, maintenance, and efficacy
testing of sterilising equipment, with accurate and compliant record keeping.
4. Demonstrated ability to assist with auditing, quality assurance and compliance activities related to dental RMD reprocessing.
5. Demonstrated ability to support supervision, on-the-job training and mentoring of sterilising technicians and other staff
undertaking dental RMD reprocessing.
6. Ability to work autonomously or as a member of a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a positive organisational culture.
7. Ability to think laterally and problem solve independently with initiative and demonstrated organisational and time management
skill.
8. Upholds a high level of personal integrity, confidentiality, adaptability and the ability to interact with diverse cultures.
9. Well-developed computer skills including use of Microsoft Office programmes and an ability to learn new IT systems.
Desirable
1. Certificate IV in Sterilising Services.
2. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
