The Principal House Officer, General Surgery will assist the Director, Staff Specialists and Senior Medical Staff to ensure that General Surgical services provided by the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service are of the highest standard and delivered in an efficient and effective manner, and to be involved in the provision of patient services.
Commencing 3rd August 2026, the Principal House Officer provides day to day surgical services to patients presenting to the outpatient and inpatient areas of the hospital. It is intended that the Principal House Officer will both maximise their own professional development and to assist in the professional development of junior medical staff and the training of students.
Sunshine Coast Health is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south and Gympie in the north.

Key Responsibilities include:
Undertake clinical duties that may include inpatient services, outpatient services, procedural work, multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical correspondence, and on-call duties.
Ensure safe and timely clinical handover with both internal and external clinicians
Ensure quality of clinical documentation to optimise decision-making and patient safety
Salary rates: $5,258.70 - $5,775.70 p.f., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (L4 - L7) (temporary full-time or part-time position, up to 76 hrs p.f.) for up to 12 months. Applications will remain current for 12 months / or the duration of the vacancy. Applications may be used to appoint to similar vacancies for a period up to 12 months after the closing date of the initial vacancy.
