Accountant | Launch Your Career in Banking & Finance | Tamworth
Northern Inland Credit Union is seeking an enthusiastic Accountant to join our Finance team at our Tamworth Head Office.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent accounting or finance graduate, or a candidate close to completing their degree, to build broad, practical experience within a trusted, member-owned financial institution. You will work alongside an experienced finance team and gain exposure to financial reporting, month-end processes, audit, tax, budgeting and regulatory reporting while progressing towards your CPA or CA qualification.
Why join NICU?
- Launch your accounting career in banking and gain exposure to work that most graduates won't see for years. You will join an experienced finance team and receive coaching and support as you build your technical and professional capabilities.
- Receive support to commence or continue CPA or CA studies, including guidance and professional development opportunities.
- Gain hands-on experience across the finance cycle, not just transactional processing, while developing your career as your qualifications and experience grows with you.
- Contribute to a trusted local organisation with more than 50 years of service to communities across north-western NSW
- This is a unique opportunity to build your career within the head office of a regulated financial institution while enjoying the benefits of living and working in regional NSW
About the opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will support the delivery of accurate, timely and well-controlled financial information across NICU.
This is a varied role with genuine learning opportunities and scope to improve processes as you develop your skills. Your work will include:
- Supporting month-end close, journals, balance-sheet reconciliations and fixed-asset accounting
- Assisting with management reports, variance analysis, ratio calculations and financial analysis
- Preparing workpapers and supporting information for regulatory reporting, tax and internal and external audit
- Contributing to budgeting, forecasting and reporting packs
- Performing data-quality checks between source systems and the general ledger
- Contributing to improvements in finance templates, processes, controls and reporting efficiency
- Assisting across finance operations as part of a collaborative team environment
About you
You will be detail-oriented, curious and keen to build your career in a regulated financial-services environment.
To be successful, you will bring:
- A completed or near-completed tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- A commitment to commence or continue CPA or CA studies
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data
- Sound analytical and problem-solving capability
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- High standards of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with others
Experience in banking, financial services, a regulated industry, accounting software or ERP systems, or Power BI will be well regarded, but is not essential.
