JLE Group is seeking an experienced Switchboard Electrician to join our Manufacturing & Hire division. Based in Newcastle, this role offers stable workshop-based work building High Voltage electrical equipment for major construction project, renewables & data centres.
About the role
The Switchboard Electrician is responsible for the assembly, wiring, and testing of electrical switchboards, distribution boards, and related LV/MV systems, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with AS/NZS standards, project specifications, and company quality requirements.
Key responsibilities include:

Assemble, wire, and fit-off electrical switchboards and distribution boards.

Install components including breakers, relays, busbars, cabling systems, and protection devices.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and layout drawings.

Complete panel layout and internal wiring in line with design documentation.

Conduct testing including continuity testing, insulation resistance (IR), functional and operational checks.

Identify and rectify defects or non-conformances and assist with FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and site commissioning where required.

Complete QA documentation, ITPs, and test records.

Ensure all work complies with AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules, AS/NZS 61439 Switchboard Standards.

Maintain accurate redline drawings and as-built documentation.

Follow all WHS procedures, SWMS, and safe work practices.

Apply lockout/tagout and isolation procedures.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment.

Assist in process improvements and standardisation.

Mentor apprentices and junior trades where required.

What you'll bring
Essential:
-
NSW Electrical Licence.
-
Electrical Trade Qualification.
-
Strong understanding of AS/NZS 3000 and relevant industry standards.

Experience in switchboard manufacturing.

Knowledge of WHS and compliance requirements including Australian standards.
Desirable:
-
Well-developed management skills such as planning, organising, and evaluation.
-
Understanding and interpreting relevant Standards and Codes of Practice.
-
7–12 years' experience in the trade.
