Position Summary
To provide effective senior services to the parties of the Hunter New England Area, whilst undertaking learning and professional development activities with the aim of progressing to the position of Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine.
Where you'll be working
The John Hunter Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a Level 6 referral centre for critically ill patients in the Hunter New England, Mid North Coast and Northern NSW Local Health Districts. It is the default centre for Trauma, Neurosurgery, Stroke, Vascular, Cardiothoracic and major General Surgery, as well as Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology. The 796-bed hospital is the main teaching hospital of the University of Newcastle. The hospital contains the only trauma centre in New South Wales outside the Sydney Metropolitan Area and has the busiest Emergency Department in the state. John Hunter is also the busiest trauma hospital in the state, and the second busiest in the country.
What you'll be doing
- The John Hunter Hospital ICU provides tertiary Intensive Care services to the hospital, LHD and wider northern NSW. The ICU Provisional Fellow/Transition Year Fellow is required to provide effective senior ICU services to the patients of the Hunter New England Area on the ICU Consultant and Fellow roster, whilst undertaking learning and professional development activities with the aim of completing the College of Intensive Care Medicine Transition Year requirements.
- The provisional fellow is required to take a leadership role in conducting ward rounds and participation in an on-call roster overnight, coordinating the admission, management and discharge planning of patients seen in or admitted to their intensive care unit and ensuring that the admission and plans are documented in the medical record. Assessment and management decisions should be made in consultation and collaboration with patients, patient’s families and the fellow’s immediate supervisor and treating medical team.
