The role
The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) within the Nursing and Midwifery Staffing Team (NMST) provides flexible workforce support which is allocated on a shift-by-shift basis across clinical areas within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service. NMST AINs are primarily utilised to fill emergent leave through daily shift-to-shift allocations.
NMST AINs may be required to provide one-to-one patient supervision (specialling) for safety, behavioural, or specific observation purposes, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
AINs may be appointed to temporary or permanent roles in alignment with their skills and experience as service needs require and are supported through a collaborative model involving Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Services Clinical Nurses and local unit clinical leads.
Requirements:
Highly Desirable: Applicants who meet one of the following criteria:
Hold a relevant Certificate III in Aged Care, Health Service Assistant or equivalent, or
Successful completion of the first semester full-time equivalent Diploma of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies, or
Successful completion of the first year full-time equivalent undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies.
Evidence of recent direct patient care experience obtained within Australia, through employment and/or supervised clinical placement, within the past 12 months, relevant to the Assistant in Nursing designation.
Shift Availability: This casual position offers opportunities to work across a variety of 24/7 shift types.

Salary range: $43.81 - $47.97 p.h. (casual rate) (NG1-1)

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:
Assist clients with activities of daily living and other tasks as delegated by the registered nurse/midwife.
Work effectively with clients, colleagues and the multidisciplinary team.
Effectively communicate information verbally and in writing.
Use or learn to use information systems appropriate to the position.
Willingness to undertake education as required by the role.
