About the Role
As the Superintendent – Mine Underground, you will provide safe, efficient and cost-effective operational control of the Telfer underground mining operations. You will lead and coordinate operational and technical teams to deliver production outcomes in line with legal requirements, mining regulations and company objectives, while fostering a strong safety culture and driving continuous improvement.
This role also holds statutory responsibilities, including acting as the Alternate Underground Manager, and plays a key role in aligning people, resources and plans to achieve underground performance targets.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and promote a strong safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with the Safety Management System and statutory requirements.
- Provide safe, efficient and cost-effective operational control of underground mining activities.
- Drive underground planning and execution to achieve quarterly and annual production targets.
- Lead, develop and mentor operational and technical teams to build capability and performance.
- Ensure effective risk management, incident investigation and timely close-out of corrective actions.
- Monitor and report underground operational performance and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Oversee contractor performance and ensure work is delivered safely and to plan.
- Collaborate with other departments to support site objectives and infrastructure and project delivery.
About You
- WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate (mandatory).
- Strong background in underground mine planning and operational delivery.
- Demonstrated technical capability across a range of orebody widths and orientations.
- High level of technical proficiency in scheduling, drill and blast, mine ventilation, underground infrastructure and project execution (pastefill experience highly regarded).
- Advanced user of Deswik planning and scheduling software preferred.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively across all levels, including engineers, geology and geotechnical teams, maintenance and fixed plant teams, processing and metallurgy, superintendents, managers, operators, shift bosses and foremen.
About Telfer Operations
Telfer is a long-life gold-copper mine in the Paterson Province of Western Australia’s East Pilbara region. The operation includes both open-pit and underground mining and Australia’s third-largest gold-copper processing facility. Since commencing production in 1975, Telfer has produced over 15 million ounces of gold. The site operates on a fly-in fly-out basis and offers a wide range of onsite recreational facilities to support workforce wellbeing.
