As our Extension Officer (Beef), you will:
Enhance beef, sheep and goat producer knowledge of key performance indicators of their businesses, and assist to identify grazing, production and business strategies to increase resilience to drought and improve reef water quality
Assist to develop technical and information materials and training, and ensure follow-up activities to assist with adoption of best management practice across livestock businesses
Improve beef, sheep and goat producer knowledge to efficiently manage and add value to their businesses by benchmarking and influencing the significant drivers within the production system
Contribute to the monitoring and reporting of the impact and value of Departmental services and projects to beef and sheep producers
Understand and use a range of extension methodologies, including face-to-face as well as web-based webinars and online training, to build relationships with stakeholders to achieve improved enterprise performance and environmental outcomes
Contribute to project deliverables of a high standard and that influence adoption by industry
Adhere to project and governance processes within a leading RD&E organisation.
Communicate and report on project activities and outcomes, both verbally and in writing to internal and external stakeholders including industry and project partners.
Build and maintain effective collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with and support other DPI activities as required.
What we are looking for:
It is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess an Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Animal, Agricultural or Environmental Science from a recognised tertiary institution.
Commitment to obtaining vaccination or provision of evidence of prior immunity to Q fever will be required prior to starting.
A current 'C' class driver's licence.
You may also have:
Experience in online engagement and extension.
Grazing industry knowledge including a sound knowledge and understanding of northern Australian beef production including grazing land management, animal health and welfare, reproduction, genetics, marketing and business management.
