Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, maintaining, and improving mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery. The role applies engineering principles to ensure that mechanical systems are safe, reliable, efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with Australian standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems, machinery, equipment, and components.
- Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and documentation.
- Conduct mechanical analysis, simulations, testing, and performance assessments.
- Select appropriate materials, components, equipment, and manufacturing methods.
- Develop and review engineering designs using CAD and engineering software.
- Evaluate existing mechanical systems and recommend improvements.
- Conduct inspections, troubleshooting, and failure investigations.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, codes, safety requirements, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, cost estimates, and project specifications.
- Work closely with electrical, civil, structural, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines.
- Collaborate with contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, and project stakeholders.
- Support installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, quality, and technical deliverables.
- Identify engineering risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and quality-control activities.
- Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, energy efficiency, and equipment reliability initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Relevant professional experience in mechanical engineering.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design, engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA, or similar engineering design software.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, machinery, hydraulics, pneumatics, and equipment.
- Understanding of engineering safety, risk management, and quality-control requirements.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and project-management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional registration with Engineers Australia and/or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status.
- Experience working with Australian Standards and engineering codes.
- Experience in industries such as mining, manufacturing, oil and gas, energy, construction, infrastructure, or industrial engineering.
- Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and computational engineering tools.
- Experience with project management and engineering procurement.
- Familiarity with workplace health and safety requirements in Australia.
- Australian work rights or an appropriate Australian work visa.
