Due to continued growth, we are seeking a qualified Motor Mechanic (General) to join our workshop team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your mechanical trade skills in a specialised environment working on heavy-duty cooling system components rather than routine vehicle servicing.
About the Role
As a Motor Mechanic – Cooling Systems Specialist, you will inspect, diagnose, service, repair, test and refurbish cooling system components used across a wide range of equipment including:
- Heavy vehicles
- Mobile plant
- Caterpillar equipment
- Generators
- Marine engines and vessels
- Industrial equipment
You will work on components including:
- Radiators
- Engine oil coolers
- Hydraulic oil coolers
- Transmission and gearbox coolers
- Charge air coolers
- Aftercoolers
- Heat exchangers
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Diagnosing faults in heavy-duty cooling system components
- Assessing failures including overheating, oil and coolant contamination, pressure loss, leaks, blocked cores, corrosion and mechanical damage
- Inspecting components removed from engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems and marine equipment
- Dismantling, cleaning and preparing components for repair or refurbishment
- Performing pressure testing and leak testing
- Replacing seals, gaskets, fittings and associated components
- Recording inspection findings, test results and repair recommendations
- Following workshop procedures, quality standards and safety requirements
- Working collaboratively with our Service and Caterpillar departments to deliver high-quality repairs on time
- Maintaining workshop equipment and a clean, safe work environment
About You
To be successful you will have:
- Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent trade qualification)
- Current Australian Driver's Licence
- Strong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Experience working as a qualified motor mechanic
- The ability to read technical instructions and complete workshop documentation
- A strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Highly regarded:
- Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis
- Experience with Caterpillar equipment, heavy vehicles, mobile plant or marine engines
- Forklift Licence (or willingness to obtain)
