Callens Consult is a specialist consultancy whose experts act as independent expert witnesses in litigation, arbitration, and other formal proceedings, providing written and oral testimony across multiple jurisdictions in the building, engineering and construction industry.
We currently have a full-time position available for am Associate Director / Lead Expert Assistant. Daily responsibilities include conducting detailed research and analysis, reviewing project records and contracts, contributing to the drafting of clear, evidence-based written reports, and leading teams of assistants on expert commissions. The role will involve working closely with senior lead experts to develop strategies, prepare claim or defence materials, and assist in the delivery of expert services. The consultant will also liaise with our clients and work as part of an integrated team to help manage project timelines and deliverables, and ensure that all work meets high professional and ethical standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- 13+ years post graduate experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying or equivalent is required, with a post graduate degree in construction law or similar preferred.
- Professional membership of the RICS, AIQS or CIArb.
- Experience working for an expert witness / claims consultancy firm required.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical, contractual, or financial information and present it clearly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting expert reports, summaries, or professional correspondence.
- Proficiency with productivity and data tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, document management systems) and the ability to learn new software as needed.
- Sound understanding of commercial principles, contracts, or dispute resolution processes; prior exposure to litigation, arbitration, or claims work is an advantage.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a professional services environment, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain attention to detail under time pressure.
- Commitment to ethical practice, professional integrity, and continuous learning in a specialized advisory environment.
