We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role
Atwell PS is seeking Special Needs Education Assistants who are passionate about supporting students and committed to maximising their impact on student learning. Successful applicants should display high expectations and a genuine belief that all students can learn and achieve success within a supportive and inclusive environment.
As a valued member of our school community, you should embrace the evidence-based practices implemented across the school to meet the diverse needs of students. Experience in synthetic phonics, MultiLit/MiniLit, supporting students with learning difficulties, and social and emotional learning programs will be highly regarded. Applicants should value the whole child, recognising that academic, social, emotional, creative and physical development are all essential to student success.
We are seeking enthusiastic team members who demonstrate initiative in adapting learning activities to respond to individual student needs. In this role, you will work collaboratively with teachers and colleagues, contributing your knowledge and expertise to create effective and inclusive learning environments.
As an Education Assistant Special Needs, you should support teachers in delivering educational programs and assist students with their learning, as well as their social, emotional and physical development. You should help ensure students’ health, safety and wellbeing, including attending to minor illnesses or injuries and providing personal care where required.
Under the direction of teachers, you will assist in implementing educational programs and work with students in both classroom and out of class learning environments. A willingness to work with students during break times, on excursions and across a range of school activities will be highly regarded.
Applicants should possess highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to build effective work relationships with teachers, support staff, families and external agencies to meet the diverse needs of students. The ability to provide constructive feedback to teaching staff regarding student progress, engagement and wellbeing is highly regarded. A compassionate, respectful and student-centred approach, along with a commitment to ongoing self-reflection and professional growth, is highly desirable.

Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
