Primary objective
Coordinate school canteen services to students and staff of nutritious and healthy food options to support school
attendance, engagement, health and wellbeing and aligned to the department’s ‘school nutrition and healthy eating’ policy,
and to network with key stakeholders – students, staff, families, community and professional associations.
Context statement
Rosebery Secondary School is expanding to be a full comprehensive high school offering education from Year 7 through to
Year 12 by 2028, providing a seamless and inclusive learning environment that caters to a diverse range of student interests
and abilities. Our curriculum is guided by the Australian Curriculum and the South Australian Certificate of Education for
senior years students, and our school is designed to deliver the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training,
with all students on a Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training pathway ensuring that students meet the
academic standards required for successful completion of secondary education. In addition to a strong academic curriculum,
the school incorporates Vocational Education and Training pathways, enabling students to gain practical skills and industry-
recognised qualifications alongside their academic studies. This dual focus equips students with both the knowledge and
competencies necessary to pursue further education, training, or direct entry into the workforce, fostering well-rounded,
future-ready graduates.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinate all aspects of school canteen operations including cooking, stocktaking, facilities cleanliness and equipment
and food hygiene.
2. Provide high level food services for students, staff and customers through the provision of healthy food choices.
3. Supervise canteen staff and volunteers and organise the daily work programme, act as Manager in their absence.
4. Ensure the school canteen complies with the NT Government’s School Nutrition and Healthy Eating Policy and
Guidelines.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability in working in a school canteen setting and undertaking cash handling, stocktaking and basic
inventory control.
2. Proven ability with preparing homemade meals, bulk catering up to 650 meals a day in a fast paced environment.
3. High level of communication skills and an ability to interact effectively with staff, adolescents, and people from diverse
cultures.
4. Experience supervising, training and supporting staff and volunteers to ensure, safe efficient and positive service delivery.
5. Demonstrated understanding of nutrition principles, food hygiene and safety standards and regulations.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the department’s School Nutrition and Healthy Eating policy and guidelines and supporting documents.
