Mackay Regional Council is seeking a Leading Hand Parks Maintenance to help deliver high-quality maintenance across parks, gardens, cemeteries and camping grounds in our Northern region.
In this role, you’ll work alongside your team—leading by example, supporting daily operations, and ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
What You’ll Be Doing
- Support the supervision and coordination of a dedicated parks maintenance team
- Assist in planning and delivering scheduled maintenance programs across open spaces
- Ensure works are completed on time, safely, and to agreed service standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes
- Foster a positive, safety-focused team culture built on respect and collaboration
- Deliver high-quality outcomes across turf, gardens, trees, cemeteries and camping grounds
- Positively represent Council when engaging with the community and stakeholders
- Undertake additional duties aligned to your role as required
About You
You’re a reliable and practical parks professional with strong leadership capability. You enjoy being hands-on, take ownership of your work, and value teamwork, safety and quality outcomes.
Qualifications, Licences & Tickets
Essential:
- Qualification in Horticulture or related field (Diploma preferred)
- QLD “C” Class Driver Licence (or ability to transfer within 3 months)
- White Card (General Construction Induction)
- Chainsaw Level 1
- Medium Rigid (MR) Licence
- ACDC Weed Spraying Licence
Desirable:
Your Experience
You bring experience in:
- Leading or guiding teams and communicating clear work instructions
- Planning and delivering maintenance programs or projects
- Building positive working relationships
- Supporting a culture focused on safety, wellbeing and accountability
- Working in a similar parks or open space maintenance role
Experience in delivering minor projects is a bonus.
Key Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of parks maintenance practices and relevant legislation
- Ability to plan, prioritise and deliver work effectively
- Confident communication and problem-solving skills
- Sound judgement and ability to resolve workplace challenges
- Basic computer skills
- Experience operating and maintaining a variety of plant and equipment
- Excellent time management and teamwork
