The opportunity & how you will make an impact.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Consultant to join our highly regarded Urban Planning team in Brisbane! This role is ideal for an experienced planner who is passionate about shaping the future of Queensland's cities and communities and thrives on solving complex planning challenges.
With a strong understanding of Queensland's planning framework and development landscape, you'll provide strategic and statutory planning advice across a diverse range of projects, from large-scale urban renewal and mixed-use developments to infrastructure, precinct planning and growth area projects. Your ability to connect planning policy, market influences, demographic trends and community outcomes will help clients navigate complexity and unlock opportunities.
As a Senior Consultant every day is different! You will make an impact by:
- Providing a broad range of planning services including strategic and statutory advice relating to land use, planning policy, strategic plans, development capability, due diligence assessments, master plans, the approval process and management
- Collaborate with internal and external multidisciplinary teams, including specialists in the fields of economics, urban design, transport advisory, community planning and stakeholder engagement.
- Linking policy settings, demographic trends and systems to bring broader context and appreciation to projects and tasks
- Writing submissions, proposals and advice that accurately reflects the client's needs
- Working alongside other professionals on a range of multi-disciplinary projects, working to specification, to deadlines, within budget and with a commercial outcome
- Mentoring and developing junior staff, helping foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
About you.

- A tertiary qualification in Urban/Town Planning or a closely related discipline along with ideally 5 years of relevant experience gained in a consultancy or local/State government environment
- Demonstrated strong technical understanding of statutory planning frameworks, controls and processes
- Detailed understanding of policy implementation through planning schemes. Queensland based experience is preferred but candidates can demonstrate skills in other planning jurisdictions
- An ability to be proactive and take initiative in order meet project and client demands
- Proven track record of managing projects and mentoring team members
- Strong communication skills with the ability to distil complex situations with clarity and articulate a compelling narrative, both in written communications and verbally
- A collaborative mindset, to bring out the best in yourself and others while bringing new thinking to Urbis and our clients
