We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Dairy Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory and quality assurance team and support the testing, analysis and compliance of raw materials and finished dairy products.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Collect and prepare raw milk, cream, yoghurt, cheese and finished dairy product samples for chemical, microbiological and quality testing in accordance with laboratory procedures and food safety standards.
- Conduct chemical and microbiological analyses and routine laboratory testing of raw milk, dairy ingredients and finished products to assess composition, quality, safety, shelf-life and compliance with company, regulatory and food safety requirements.
- Prepare testing materials, reagents and sample solutions required for laboratory examinations and analytical procedures.
- Record, analyse and interpret laboratory data and test results while maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Prepare written reports, charts, graphs and quality records to communicate analytical findings and support production and quality assurance activities.
- Perform routine calculations and measurements relating to product composition, test outcomes and laboratory analysis.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory inventory levels, including chemicals, reagents, consumables and testing materials to ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations.
- Check, calibrate, verify and maintain laboratory instruments and testing equipment to ensure accuracy, reliability and compliance with prescribed standards.
- Assist with the installation, testing, modification and validation of laboratory equipment and analytical systems to maintain operational and quality standards.
- Support quality assurance and production teams by investigating product variances, non-conformances and quality issues through laboratory analysis and technical assessment.
- Ensure that raw materials, ingredients and finished dairy products comply with internal specifications, food safety requirements and industry standards.
- Maintain laboratory procedures and ensure testing activities are performed in accordance with company policies, quality management systems and regulatory requirements.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Chemistry, Food Science, Laboratory Technology or a closely related discipline.
- At least one year of full-time relevant work experience or equivalent part-time/casual experience in laboratory testing, food manufacturing, dairy processing, quality assurance or a related environment is mandatory.
- Demonstrated knowledge of chemical and microbiological testing methods, laboratory procedures and analytical techniques.
- Experience in the operation, calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments and analytical equipment.
- Sound understanding of food safety requirements, quality management systems and regulatory compliance standards.
- Strong analytical, organisational and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
