About the business:
Airmech Airconditioning is a Western Australian air conditioning and refrigeration business established for over 25 years, servicing clients across the Perth metropolitan area from Dawesville to Currambine.
Our work spans commercial and light commercial air conditioning — including offices, retail and hospitality tenancies, strata and small business premises, factories and commercial facilities. We install, service, maintain and repair a wide range of systems, and we have trained apprentices for more than 20 years.
We are a small, hands-on team where technicians are trusted with their own work and supported by experienced tradespeople. We are looking for an experienced Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician to join us on a full-time permanent basis, focused on our installation workload.
The role:
This is an installation-focused trade role. You will carry out the installation, pipework, commissioning and servicing of light commercial and commercial air conditioning and refrigeration systems — principally split, multi-head, ducted and packaged systems.
You will work on your own jobs day to day and team up with our senior technicians on larger installations. Complex plant work — chilled water systems, air handling units and major commercial fault diagnosis — is handled by our senior technical staff, so this role does not require that background.
Key responsibilities:
- Install and commission light commercial and commercial air conditioning and refrigeration systems, including split, multi-head, ducted and packaged units;
- Set out installations from drawings and specifications; drill, mount, and cut, bend, braze and run refrigeration pipework;
- Carry out refrigerant handling activities — pressure testing, leak detection, evacuation and charging — in accordance with licensing requirements;
- Connect and test electrical and control wiring associated with installed equipment;
- Test, commission and adjust installed systems to ensure they operate to manufacturer specifications and relevant Australian standards;
- Diagnose and rectify faults on light commercial and commercial systems, and replace defective components;
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, routine inspections and operational checks;
- Read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals, plans and specifications;
- Maintain accurate job records, service reports and installation documentation;
- Work safely and in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements and manufacturer specifications;
- Communicate professionally with clients, builders, contractors and team members on site.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated hands-on experience as an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician, HVAC Technician, Airconditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic or similar trade role;
- Solid practical experience installing and commissioning split, multi-head, ducted and packaged air conditioning systems;
- Competence in refrigeration pipework — cutting, bending, brazing, pressure testing, evacuation and charging;
- Working knowledge of refrigeration principles, mechanical components and the electrical control systems associated with the equipment you install;
- Ability to fault-find and repair on light commercial and commercial systems;
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals and specifications;
- A current ARC refrigerant handling licence appropriate to the work;
- Relevant trade qualifications, technical training or equivalent industry experience in air conditioning, refrigeration or a related field;
- A commitment to safe work practices and a practical, reliable approach on site;
- A current Australian driver's licence and the ability to travel to worksites across the Perth metropolitan area.
This role suits a capable installer who wants steady, varied work rather than a supervisory position. Experience across a range of light commercial sites will be highly regarded.
What we offer:
- Permanent full-time employment with an established Western Australian business servicing clients across Perth;
- Consistent installation workload across a varied client base;
- A small, supportive team with experienced tradespeople on hand;
- Ongoing skills development and support toward further qualifications;
- A workplace that values quality workmanship and safe work practices.
How to apply:
- Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant qualifications and experience.
- Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
Pay: $79,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
