Primary objective
Ensure high quality, consistent daily care and support services to the residents in accordance with their transition plans, individualised
therapeutic care plan, behaviour support plans, departmental policies and procedures. Provide support and leadership to Forensic
Disability Support Workers (FDSW) and be a role model in relation to good work practices.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake statutory responsibilities and exercise delegations in accordance with relevant legislation and departmental policies and
procedures.
2. Provide leadership and supervision to Forensic Disability Support Workers to ensure consistent quality care to clients residing at the
Step-Down Cottages and community accommodation.
3. Oversee the management of critical incidents and delivery of interventions according to the client’s behaviour support plan (BSP) as
intended to reduce the resident’s risk and to support the development of functional skills to step down into a less restrictive care
setting.
4. Contribute to the development and implementation of individualised therapeutic support plans and forensic risk management.
5. Identify issues impacting on the delivery of quality, consistent care and draw these concerns to the attention of the Service
Coordinator, Clinical Team, On call and Direct Service Manager.
6. Role model good work practices to the Forensic Disability Support Workers (FDSW) including ensuring thorough documentation,
record keeping and reporting to Service Coordinator and the Direct Service Manager
7. Contribute to the development of the work unit and client programs to increase participation and quality of life.
8. Follow all reasonable directions from supervisory staff members.
9. Manage and lead the reporting of facility management, repairs and maintenance, work health and safety concerns.
10. Follow defined service quality standards, Department of Health (DoH) Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures
relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
11. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Recognised experience working with people who have high support needs, including people with intellectual disabilities or psychiatric
disabilities and behaviour of concern.
2. Working knowledge and an ability to apply and lead the implementation of relevant legislation, Departmental policy and Forensic
Disability Unit (FDU) practices.
3. Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised, provide leadership and support to FDSW’s to ensure appropriate implementation of work
unit activities.
4. Sound experience working collaboratively with a diverse range of people to achieve positive client and service outcomes including an
ability to use and apply sound problem-solving skills and an ability to use initiative to achieve outcomes.
5. Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including an ability to write detailed incident reports, emails and relevant
documentation.
6. An ability to use high quality interpersonal skills in an environment inclusive of people from cross-cultural backgrounds.
7. Willingness to work 12-hour shifts on a 24/7 roster.
8. Current manual drivers’ licence and a current prison clearance or the ability to obtain both upon commencement if successful.
Desirable
1. Certificate IV in Disability or the willingness to obtain.
