About the Mackay Hospital and Health Service (MHHS)
The MHHS region covers Sarina in the south, Clermont in the west, and Bowen and the Whitsunday Islands in the northeast. It services approximately 182,000 people in an area of approximately 90,000km.
The MHHS has six hospitals, two Multi-Purpose Health Services and three community health centres that employ more than 2700 staff. The Mackay Base Hospital is the referral hospital or the rural facilities at Proserpine, Bowen, Dysart, Clermont, Collinsville, Moranbah, and Sarina. Proserpine Hospital is the largest rural facility and offers birthing and surgical services.

About the Unit/Department
Cardiac Services at Mackay Base Hospital is currently staffed with 5 Cardiologists (4 x Interventional & 1 x Non-Interventional), 6 Principal House Officers/Registrars (including 2 x Advanced Trainees), 4 Junior / Senior House Officers and 3 Interns. We provide cardiology services to a community population of 190,000. The Department is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for cardiology advanced training status. A wide range of cardiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are provided including Echo, TOE with 3D capacity, stress echo, Dobutamine, CTCA, Cardiac MRI, coronary intervention and pacing device implantation.
Your role (includes but is not limited to)
Provide expert clinical services (including sub specialities) for the Unit/Department within the Clinical Services Capability Framework for the facility, and within the Clinical Privileges formally granted to the Staff Specialist.
Provide expert consultancy/advisory services as required to both internal and external agencies that are relevant to the health industry.
Maintain current knowledge regarding the provision of safe and high-quality health care, including the concepts of Human Factors and Patient Safety, and to promote these within the Health Service.
Actively participate in and maintain membership in a range of organisational committees.
Facilitate and encourage innovation and change by adopting contemporary approaches to clinical service delivery creating a high-level performance culture within the service.
Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisation goals.
Actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety, and ethical behaviour.
Other duties as directed by the Director, Cardiac Services and Cardiac Catheter Lab or the Executive Director of Medical Services.
