The Senior Clinical Nurse (CN) – Perioperative Robotic Surgery provides advanced clinical leadership within the operating theatre, specialising in general surgical procedures. This role is responsible for delivering expert perioperative care, ensuring optimal patient outcomes, and supporting the efficient coordination of theatre activities. The role also involves mentoring and developing staff. Strong leadership, advanced perioperative expertise, and excellent communication skills are essential, along with current nursing registration and extensive experience in general surgery theatre settings.
The Robotics CN is an advanced clinical nursing role that combines administrative, clinical, technical, and educational responsibilities to facilitate the smooth operation, high utilisation, and clinical success of robotic surgery systems. The role focuses on supporting improvement of the robotic surgery program efficiency, clinical outcomes, and fostering a skilled, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily robotic surgery scheduling and resource allocation to support operational efficiency and patient flow.

Support workforce coordination, rostering practices, and operational planning within the perioperative environment.

Coordinate inventory management, equipment readiness, and maintenance of robotic systems.

Develop and maintain robotic surgery policies, procedures, competency frameworks, and clinical protocols.

Monitor and analyse quality, utilisation, and operational data to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Provide intraoperative robotic support and troubleshooting during robotic procedures.

Support onboarding, education, competency assessment, and ongoing development of perioperative staff and robotic surgery teams.

Build strong collaborative relationships with surgeons, perioperative teams, executive leadership, and external stakeholders.
Essential Criteria
- Registered Nurse with authority to practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Minimum 5-7 years’ experience, with at least 3 years full-time equivalent in a relevant specialty field.

Demonstrated experience with robotic surgical systems is essential.

Deep understanding of surgical procedures, sterile technique, and perioperative workflow.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively between clinical teams, executives, and external vendors.

Demonstrated clinical leadership capability and effectiveness within multidisciplinary teams.
