Primary objective
Provide care, supervision and support to vulnerable children, young people and families, in accordance with policies and procedures,
statutory responsibilities, practice frameworks and Family Responsibility Agreements.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Responsible for the delivery of case management planning and delivery, data collection and reporting, including the
management of less complex cases.
2. Maintain a high level of services to clients through the provision of demonstrated best practice in the delivery of statutory and
non-statutory welfare services.
3. Undertake statutory responsibilities and exercise delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act in accordance with
departmental policies and procedures.
4. Ensure the availability of reliable data through the accurate and timely recording of case records and client information on the
agency’s case management systems.
5. Assist in delivering the Department’s statutory welfare group responses in accordance with the Emergency Management Act.
6. Actively participate in the departments roster program and after-hours service.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable families and young people, skills in the assessment of family and community
dynamics, the application of appropriate welfare and counselling interventions, including a high-level ability to conceptualise
and analyse information.
2. A demonstrated commitment to cultural safety and providing culturally responsive services to young people and families
including knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures and demonstrated
understanding of the historical and current factors that impact on Aboriginal people.
3. Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills and an ability to provide individualised case management to improve
outcomes for vulnerable families.
4. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working
relationships and engage with a diverse stakeholder group.
5. Demonstrated ability to apply the provisions of relevant legislation in working with children, families and individuals on
voluntary and statutory bases.
6. Demonstrated organisation skills, with the ability to manage high volume workloads and work under pressure in a fast-paced
environment.
7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, including fostering a positive team culture
and ensuring all staff uphold a commitment to ethical conduct, respect and accountability, while remaining resilient in a
challenging environment.
Desirable
1. Certificate IV in Youth Work, Community Services, or another relevant field.
Further information
1. The recommended applicant will be required to hold a current NT Drivers licence, current Working with Children Clearance
notice and undergo a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is a
relevant criminal history.
2. The successful applicant will be required to participate in a roster program and to travel to regional and/or remote locations, as
required.
