About the Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Assistant to join our dynamic law firm based in New Farm. This role is integral to ensuring the smooth operation of our firm and administrative processes. You will be responsible for managing both general and trust accounting functions, preparing BAS & IAS, maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and supporting the firm’s operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
In this position, you will oversee the day-to-day financial activities of the firm, including handling receipts and payments, reconciling accounts, and processing transactions through Xero. You will manage trust account operations in accordance with legal standards, monitor client balances, and assist with controlled money arrangements. The role also involves preparing payroll, BAS & IAS, setting up new staff in accounting systems, and drafting employment documentation.
Beyond core accounting duties, you will support the firm’s business operations by managing billing cycles, preparing monthly performance reports for solicitors, and liaising with external service providers. You will also handle miscellaneous administrative requirements, while ensuring accurate record-keeping for directors’ personal documents.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience as a bookkeeper with an understanding of general and trust accounting principles
- Experience using Xero and legal practice management systems (e.g., Actionstep)
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills for liaising with clients, staff, and external providers
