Workshop Leading Hand

Carpentaria Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Leading Hand to join our Engineering Services team based at the Normanton Depot.
This is a hands-on leadership role supporting the Workshop Foreman with the day-to-day coordination of workshop activities, while providing technical guidance and support to Diesel Fitters and Apprentice Diesel Fitters.
About the Role
As Workshop Leading Hand, you will:
- Coordinate daily workshop jobs and monitor work progress.
- Provide hands-on mechanical and technical support to workshop staff.
- Guide and mentor fitters and apprentices.
- Assist with maintenance scheduling, repairs and project work.
- Undertake diagnostics, repairs, welding, hydraulics and general mechanical maintenance.
- Carry out work in the workshop and at Council worksites and remote camps.
- Support the Workshop Foreman with maintaining a safe, organised and productive workshop.
To Be Successful You Will Have
- A recognised Mechanical Trade Certificate in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Commercial Vehicles or Light Vehicle Maintenance.
- Demonstrated mechanical servicing, maintenance and fault-finding experience.
- Experience working with heavy vehicles, machinery and hydraulic systems.
- The ability to lead, communicate effectively and provide guidance to other employees.
- A minimum Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver Licence, Multi Combination (MC) desirable.
- Heavy machinery tickets or a willingness to obtain them.
Classification & Salary
- Classification: LGO Level 4 Outdoor
- Salary: $103,435.07 – $52.35 per hour (dependent on qualifications and experience), plus superannuation and applicable allowances in accordance with the Carpentaria Shire Council Certified Agreement.
