We provide a broad range of services, including personal care, community access, support coordination, Supported Independent Living, Short-Term Accommodation, therapeutic programs, domestic assistance and home and community-based support.
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Diversional Therapist to join our team and contribute specialist expertise to the development and delivery of innovative therapeutic, recreational and lifestyle programs. The role will involve designing tailored programs for clients with diverse support needs and working collaboratively with management, support workers and allied health professionals. The successful candidate will play an important role in creating engaging opportunities that promote wellbeing, independence, social participation and quality of life for our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development and implementation of diversional therapy programs, including the establishment of WeDoo Care’s Eumundi therapeutic and lifestyle facility.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of client cohorts, support needs, cognitive abilities, behavioural presentations and wellbeing outcomes to inform the design of innovative therapeutic programs.
- Develop specialised recreational, sensory, cognitive stimulation, creative arts, nature-based and community engagement programs tailored to participants with varying physical, intellectual, psychosocial and age-related support requirements.
- Design and establish therapeutic activity spaces, sensory environments and wellbeing-focused recreational facilities to support participant engagement and therapeutic outcomes.
- Develop evidence-based program frameworks, activity schedules, participation pathways and outcome measurement tools for ongoing use by the organisation.
- Research and implement contemporary diversional therapy practices, therapeutic recreation methodologies and innovative engagement strategies relevant to disability and community care settings.
- Develop interventions aimed at improving cognitive functioning, emotional resilience, social participation, confidence and independence among participants.
- Create individualised therapeutic engagement plans for clients with complex support needs, including behavioural, psychosocial and cognitive challenges.
- Collaborate with management and allied health professionals to integrate therapeutic recreation programs into broader participant support plans.
- Provide expert advice regarding facility design, equipment selection, therapeutic resources and activity infrastructure required to support lifestyle programs.
- Develop and implement staff training resources, operational procedures and best-practice guidelines to support the long-term delivery of therapeutic recreation services.
- Mentor support workers and program staff in the delivery of recreational and therapeutic activities.
- Establish community partnerships and external engagement opportunities to facilitate inclusive participation and meaningful social connections for participants.
- Monitor, evaluate and analyse program effectiveness through outcome measurements, participant feedback and therapeutic progress indicators.
- Prepare detailed reports, program evaluations and recommendations to support the successful implementation and sustainability of the new facility’s therapeutic services.
- Contribute specialist expertise to the development of innovative lifestyle, wellness and community participation initiatives.
- Ensure all programs and project activities comply with NDIS Practice Standards, organisational policies, risk management requirements and relevant industry best-practice principles.
Qualifications and Experience:
- AQF Certificate IV or higher qualification relevant to diversional therapy, leisure and health, community services, allied health assistance or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role within aged care, disability support or community care environments
- Strong understanding of person-centred care principles and recreational therapy practices
- Ability to develop and coordinate tailored activity programs for individuals with varying support needs
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
- Compassionate, patient and supportive approach to client care
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Current National Police Check
- Current Driver Licence
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
