We're seeking an enthusiastic journalist to join our Great Southern team and become the driving force behind two respected regional publications - the Great Southern Herald and Narrogin Observer.
Based in Katanning, this role offers the chance to immerse yourself in the heartbeat of regional WA, building strong community connections while delivering compelling stories across print and digital platforms. Every day will bring something different, from covering major news events and local politics to highlighting the people and stories that make these communities unique.
Reporting to the Editor (Great Southern), your key responsibilities will include:
Consistently delivering accurate, engaging copy to strict deadlines.
Covering breaking news stories across a broad range of areas.
Pitching agenda-setting exclusive story ideas to the Editor.
Building and maintaining excellent contacts across the community.
Interviewing and photographing subjects confidently and professionally.
Representing the company in a professional and courteous manner.
What you will bring to the role:
Admirable written and verbal communication.
Highly organised with the ability to build rapport quickly with a range of stakeholders.
A passion for community journalism, strong work ethic and self-motivation.
Experience writing copy in a professional or academic context
Have an eagle-eye for detail and excellent writing skills.
Excellent time management with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Champion the Great Southern Herald and Narrogin Observer by actively engaging with the community, uncovering local stories, and reinforcing the publications' valued role in regional life.
