Primary objective
As a member of the support services team you will be responsible for providing efficient and effective services in housekeeping, kiosk,
catering and laundry, including but not limited to; preparing and delivering meals, maintaining hygienic work environments and following
service quality standards, infection controls and Work Health and Safety policies.
Context statement
This role will assist in attaining budgeted FTE to ensure all daily duties are accomplished to a satisfactory standard in Laundry, Kiosk,
Catering and Housekeeping. This will promote a multi skilled workforce within the Katherine Hospital’s non-clinical services.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Perform duties as directed to ensure the efficient functioning of the non-clinical areas and work as a member of the support services
team supporting a safe work environment and participate in Department of Health Quality Improvement Programs.
2. Follow defined service quality standards, infection control, Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the
work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
3. Prepare and deliver meals to patients, undertake general dishwashing and cleaning duties in catering and hospital kiosk. Provide
excellent customer service to staff, patients and visitors whilst serving healthy choice based hospital prepared meals at the kiosk.
4. Maintain hygiene within the kiosk, kitchen and general food service environment as per food safe regulations and the ability to
implement food safe regulations.
5. Follow precise work area procedures when carrying out duties, which include record keeping, collecting, sorting and washing soiled
linen, drying and delivering clean linen to Hospital wards and other approved clients, work departments, work station cleaning,
assisting with the changeover of chemical drums when required, and operating laundry machinery to complete these duties required.
6. Demonstrated physical ability to undertake cleaning duties in various clinical areas including the use of industrial cleaning equipment,
safe handling of chemicals and transporting of waste to designated collection points.
7. Demonstrated ability and capacity to work with limited supervision and maintain confidentiality.
8. Ability to drive laundry tow trolley or willingness to learn with on the job training.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrate knowledge of Basic English literacy and numeracy skills.
2. Ability to apply relevant food safe guidelines and principles of healthy eating, WHS regulations and Infection Control procedures in
an industrial environment with a willingness to learn how to safely operate hospital industrial machinery in non-clinical areas.
3. Working knowledge and experience in the safe use of industrial chemicals.
4. Demonstrate punctuality, flexibility and reliability
5. Take direction from management and be flexible across work units to assist in staff shortages when required.
6. Commitment to teamwork within a diverse cultural and multidisciplinary environment including the ability to interact effectively with
people from diverse cultures.
7. Demonstrated experience in customer service including sale transitions and money handling, stock receipting and rotation and meal
preparation.
