The Role
Partners Joel Von Thein and Nicholas Fletcher are seeking a talented lawyer to join their growing team based in Sydney. With a unique practice that spans commercial transactions and infrastructure matters, Joel and Nick foster a team culture that is non-hierarchical, collegiate, and flexible.
This is a unique opportunity to join a market-leading practice advising owners and operators of some of Australia's most significant transport, logistics and strategic assets. Our clients include leading airport operators, government-owned corporations, telecommunications providers and major transport and logistics businesses, and we advise on matters that shape Australia's transport and digital economy.
We have a broad commercial practice that combines sophisticated transactions with strategic advisory work. You will work on a diverse range of commercial transactions, procurement, project delivery and regulatory matters across the airports, rail, ports, telecommunications, logistics and digital infrastructure sectors.
The practice is intentionally broad, providing exposure to the full lifecycle of major assets—from acquisitions and commercial structuring through to procurement, contract negotiation, project delivery, operational issues and long-term asset management. This breadth enables our lawyers to develop into trusted commercial advisers with deep industry knowledge.
We work closely with colleagues across the Firm to deliver an integrated, full-service offering to our clients. Opportunities for client secondments also arise from time to time, providing valuable in-house commercial experience with major organisations.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
3–4 years' post-admission experience in a leading commercial law firm;
Excellent academic credentials;
Experience in commercial transactions, procurement, front-end projects, corporate, property or another transactional practice;
Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements;
Strong commercial judgement and an ability to identify practical solutions for clients;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining exceptional client service; and
A genuine interest in developing a long-term practice advising owners and operators of major transport, logistics and strategic assets.
