We are seeking two experienced and motivated Chefs to join our professional kitchen team on a permanent full-time basis.
The Chefs will be responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operation of the kitchen, including food preparation and production, menu planning, food and labour cost control, stock management, kitchen staff supervision, food safety and maintaining consistently high standards of food quality and presentation.
The successful candidates will have a strong understanding of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, excellent organizational skills, the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced restaurant environment, including during peak service periods and functions, and the commitment to delivering high-quality food and exceptional customer experiences.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Manage and oversee all kitchen preparation and food production.
· Prepare and cook high-quality Sri Lankan cuisine in accordance with restaurant standards
· Ensure food preparation, cooking and presentation consistently meet high standards of quality and efficiency.
· Plan menus and discuss menu ideas with management.
· Develop and maintain standard recipes and menu costings.
· Manage stock ordering, receiving, storage and rotation.
· Monitor and control food costs, labour costs and kitchen expenses.
· Minimize food wastage and ensure efficient use of ingredients and supplies.
· Supervise, train and support kitchen staff.
· Assist with recruitment, interviewing and selection of kitchen staff.
· Provide feedback and contribute to the performance and professional development of kitchen team members.
· Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, sanitation and workplace health and safety requirements.
· Maintain a clean, organized and safe kitchen at all times.
· Coordinate kitchen operations during busy service periods and functions.
· Work closely with management to support restaurant operations and business objectives.
Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience
· Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification
· Diploma or other relevant qualification is desirable.
· Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience as a Chef.
· Demonstrated international culinary experience, particularly in preparing authentic Sri Lankan cuisine in reputable restaurants or hospitality establishments.
· Demonstrated experience managing and supervising a commercial kitchen.
· Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and food presentation.
· Demonstrated experience with menu planning, recipe development and menu costing.
· Demonstrated experience managing food costs, labour costs and stock.
· Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
· Ability to work effectively under pressure during peak service periods and functions.
· Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
· Computer literacy and ability to use relevant restaurant and business systems.
