This role sits within the Workers Compensation Reform Team and manages a team responsible for conducting and determining liability reviews of disputed psychological injury Worker’s Compensation claims attributed to bullying, harassment and excessive work demands.

Duties
The rules about what types of psychological injury are covered by workers compensation are changing. Icare is supporting that change by establishing a specialist team with skills in industrial relations to assess and determine disputes according to the new rules. As a Manager, Eligibility Dispute Review you will:
- Oversee and manage the end-to-end process for reviewing psychological injury liability decisions in accordance with section 280AE of the Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998, as amended by the Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Act 2025 including:
- Ensuring that all timeframes, targets and regulatory and statutory obligations are met.
- Driving and ensuring positive, courteous and professional service when interacting with customers and internal and external stakeholders.
- Engaging with, consulting and managing communications with our service providers/Scheme Agents and other impacted internal and external stakeholders.
- Coach, mentor and develop staff, including overseeing new employee recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high performing specialists.
- Empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals through goal setting, feedback and performance development planning.
- Provide effective performance feedback through regular formal quality assurance activities and one on ones.
- Apply your understanding of industrial relations definitions to determine whether bullying and harassment, or excessive work demands relevant conduct meet those definitions.
- Produce complete, accurate and accessible documentation of determination and associated reasons for determination.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Demonstrated high level team management experience
- 6+ years’ experience in NSW or FairWork industrial law matters
- Comprehensive understanding of Workers Compensation legislation.
- Comprehensive understanding of NSW Industrial Relations laws pertaining to bullying and harassment.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analysis skills, combined with effective judgment and communication skills.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and influence a range of senior stakeholders.
- Shows resilience, drive and commitment with the ability to work effectively in a constantly changing and pressured team environment.
- Admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of NSW with an unrestricted practicing certificate.

Desirable
Extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution/litigation on insurance related matters.
