Boddington is a flagship Newmont gold and copper operation in Western Australia, located about 130 kilometres south-east of Perth and 16 kilometres from the rural town of Boddington. This large open-pit mine is among Australia’s biggest gold producers and in 2021 it became the world’s first gold mine to implement an Autonomous Haulage System (driverless haul trucks) – a pioneering step for safety and innovation. Your Role – Reliability Engineer (Shovel Fleet)
Reporting within the Asset Management Mobile Maintenance team, you will be the reliability focal point for Boddington's critical production shovel fleet, comprised predominantly of Caterpillar equipment. This role is responsible for driving equipment reliability, availability and lifecycle performance across a fleet that plays a pivotal role in delivering safe and productive mining outcomes.
You will partner closely with maintenance, operations and technical teams to identify failure trends, eliminate repeat defects and optimise maintenance strategies that maximise equipment performance while reducing operating costs. Your work will directly influence fleet availability, operational efficiency and long-term asset value.

Monitor and analyse the reliability performance of the Caterpillar shovel fleet, identifying emerging risks and improvement opportunities.

Lead defect elimination initiatives focused on recurring equipment failures and production losses.

Analyse downtime events, SAP maintenance history and equipment performance data to identify root causes and sustainable corrective actions.

Facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and implement reliability improvement programs.

Develop, review and optimise preventative maintenance and RCM-based maintenance strategies.

Support condition monitoring, component health management and lifecycle asset management activities.

Produce reliability reports, fleet performance dashboards and KPI analysis for key stakeholders.

Develop lifecycle cost models and support capital planning decisions for major fleet assets.

Coach and mentor maintenance and operational personnel in reliability best practices and continuous improvement methodologies.
To succeed in this role, you will bring a combination of strong technical capability and practical experience working with large-scale mining equipment, including:

Degree qualifications in Mechanical Engineering.

Demonstrated reliability engineering experience within surface mining or heavy industrial environments.

Strong understanding of Caterpillar mining shovels and associated excavation systems.
-
Experience supporting large mobile mining fleets, ideally including shovels, loaders, haul trucks and ancillary equipment.

Proven experience applying reliability methodologies including:
