About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Development Manager to join our Technology team in Toowong. This leadership role reports directly to the Head of Development and is pivotal in driving technology excellence, people development, and delivery outcomes across our Growth Ops team. You will provide strategic leadership across technology, people, and resource allocation, managing a team of 10–12 software developers whilst ensuring the delivery of secure, scalable solutions that meet business needs. You'll be a natural mentor with a passion for nurturing high-performing teams, fostering a collaborative environment, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement.

What you'll be doing
As our Development Manager, you'll lead and inspire a high-performing development team whilst driving technical excellence and operational efficiency. Your key accountabilities will include:
- People Leadership: Provide direction, support, and mentorship to a team of 10–12 software developers. Develop individual performance plans, career pathways, and facilitate professional development opportunities aligned to team and business objectives.
- Technology Leadership: Own system architecture alongside the Head of Development and Architecture Group. Champion continuous improvement in development processes, streamline delivery throughput, and ensure all development work meets security standards, legislative requirements, and agreed technical architecture.
- Resource Coordination: Allocate personnel strategically based on business priorities, manage planned and contingency leave, develop succession plans for key skills, and identify and escalate resource constraints in a timely manner.
- Stakeholder Management: Build strong, trusted relationships with business and customer groups. Provide clear communication and reporting on all development work within your remit, acting as a bridge between technical teams and broader business objectives.
- Technical Impediment Resolution: Assist the team in finding solutions for technical and non-technical impediments whilst driving SDLC and efficiency improvements.
What you'll bring

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent industry experience

Minimum 5 years' management experience in software development

Proven people leadership managing teams of up to 15 developers

Strong technical knowledge (relational databases, MySQL, Confluence, JIRA)

Experience with SDLC, agile delivery, and project estimation

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

Strong communication and stakeholder influence

Coaching experience and commitment to developing others

Highly desirable:

2+ years managing development teams

Tertiary qualification in technology (BSc or Development focus)

Experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, New Relic, or similar)
