The Hutchins School is seeking a reliable, safety-focused and community-minded Bus Driver to join our Facilities Team in a permanent part-time position.
This role works three days per week during school terms only, with split shifts:
- Morning shift: 6:30am – 9:00am (approximately)
- Afternoon shift: 2:30pm – 5:00pm (approximately)
As one of the first and last people many students see during their school day, our Bus Drivers play an important role in creating a safe, welcoming and positive experience for all passengers.
About the Role
Under the direction of the Senior Bus Driver, you will provide dependable transportation services for students to and from School.
This role requires a calm, attentive and professional driver who can maintain high safety standards while fostering a respectful and supportive environment for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, reliable and professional transportation services for students
- Maintain a welcoming and respectful environment on all bus services
- Monitor and support appropriate student behaviour during travel
- Complete pre-drive safety inspections and checks of the vehicle and safety equipment
- Record student attendance for each bus run and provide attendance records as required
- Ensure the bus is maintained in a clean, tidy and presentable condition
- Operate the vehicle in accordance with all licensing, accreditation and regulatory requirements
- Maintain strong focus and situational awareness while driving in varying conditions, including heavy traffic, adverse weather and changing road conditions
- Promptly identify and report hazards, incidents or safety concerns in accordance with School procedures
About You
You are dependable, patient and calm under pressure, with a genuine ability to engage positively with young people. You understand the importance of safety, consistency and professionalism in a school environment.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A current Light Rigid (LR) Licence
- Experience driving passenger vehicles or similar transport services
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with children and young people
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively within a small team
- Current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
