Primary objective
As a member of the leadership team, provide innovative educational leadership and management to implement curriculum,
wellbeing and educational programs at Angurugu School. The Senior Teacher Wellbeing and Curriculum should inspire
students, staff and community members to optimise learning and engagement of all students.
Context statement
Angurugu School is a community school on Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of Carpentaria, ranging from FaFT to Year 12. It has
an enrolment of approx. 130 aboriginal students across those year levels. The South32 Manganese mine is close to Angurugu
and is expected to operate until 2032, providing royalty payments to the traditional owners of Groote Eylandt. Angurugu
School is currently not a bilingual school.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Enact the Angurugu vision with a focus on a shared respectful culture that challenges, sets high expectations for both
students and teachers, builds capability skills so they can directly support all teachers to improve classroom instruction,
student engagement and capable and independent learners.
2. Provide coaching about teacher professional practice, knowledge and engagement to build high performing teams to
foster a learning environment for students that will result in improved student outcomes.
3. Model effective teaching practices through expectations for all staff to achieve high standards and build their capacity
through professional development and performance management.
4. Lead, coordinate and facilitate the implementation of Department of Education systemic requirements and supported
whole school evidence-based approaches, specifically implementation of Explicit Instructional Model and embedding
Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support Framework.
5. Develop relationships with families and community groups to promote attendance.
6. Undertake a reasonable teaching load not exceeding 60% of instructional time across a term.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated capacity to model best practice teaching and learning.
2. Proven ability to build the capacity of self, others and high performing teams through high level coaching and/or
mentoring around curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and the use of student data to inform teaching and learning that is
future focused with engaging real work learning experiences.
3. Demonstrated capacity to implement Berry Street Educational Model practices in all curriculum areas or ability to
pivot to BSEM from other trauma-informed programmes.
4. Demonstrated ability to understand contemporary educational research relating to school improvement in particular
School-wide Positive Behaviour and Explicit Instructional Model and demonstrated effective implementation of school
based and system wide policies and procedures associated with student wellbeing.
5. Demonstrated ability to build a shared culture of high expectations, while developing and maintaining effective
interpersonal and cross-cultural relationships within and beyond the school community, including industry.
