What you'll be doing
The primary focus of this position is to provide a comprehensive and specialist social work service to children, young people and their families with complex physical and cognitive disabilities requiring rehabilitation, with a focus on children and young people with cerebral palsy. This includes psychosocial assessments, specialist counselling, group work, psychoeducation and advocacy. The social worker works as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.
The senior social worker is required to play a key role in service development and continuous quality improvement to ensure clinical needs of children and their families are met. The position takes a leadership role in the development and provision of education programs in the relevant specialty for both social workers and health professionals within SCHN and externally. The social worker also provides a consultative role within their specialisation to key stakeholders.

- Eligibility for AASW membership.
- Substantial post graduate experience in social work practice with children and their families.
- A well-developed knowledge of the psycho-social challenges facing families and children and young people living with complex physical and cognitive disabilities and a sound knowledge of relevant community resources and support services available to the children and families.
- Significant post graduate experience in a variety of social work interventions/modalities including psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, case management, counselling, group work and advocacy
- Excellent demonstrated interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated skills and experience in clinical supervision, professional education activities, service planning, and quality improvement activities
- Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems.
