Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to join our team at the Ballan location on a full-time, permanent basis. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of store operations, ensuring consistently high standards of customer service, compliance, and financial performance. You will work closely with the Store Manager and Business Manager to support the achievement of the business's operational and commercial objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
Determine appropriate product mix, stock levels, and service standards in line with customer demand and business objectives.
- Formulate and implement purchasing and marketing policies; review and set retail pricing consistent with market conditions, supplier terms, and business targets.
- Plan and oversee promotional activities, in-store displays, and advertising of the business's fuel and convenience retail products and services.
- Serve customers and advise on product use, fuel grades, and available services; handle customer enquiries and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of stock levels, inventory movements, and financial transactions; prepare reports on store performance for management review.
- Prepare and manage budgets covering revenue, operating expenses, and sales targets; monitor financial performance and report on variances.
- Manage all aspects of staffing including recruitment, selection, rostering, training, supervision, performance evaluation, and development of retail staff.
- Coordinate consistency across pricing, product ranging, promotional activity, and service delivery standards across all retail channels and operational areas.
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and external stakeholders to support procurement activities and maintain uninterrupted store operations.
- Work with the leadership team to identify and implement strategies to improve sales performance, operational efficiency, and the overall customer experience.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations including occupational health and safety requirements, fuel retail standards, and relevant workplace legislation.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Qualification and Employment:
1. A Diploma or higher qualification in Business, Retail Management, or a related field. In lieu of formal qualifications, equivalent relevant full-time experience may be considered.
2. A minimum of three (3) years of recent full-time relevant experience in a retail management or supervisory role.
Required Skills and Attributes:
3. Strong leadership and people management skills with demonstrated ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate a retail team.
4. Sound knowledge of retail operations including inventory management, merchandising, stock control, and financial reporting.
5. Demonstrated experience in setting and monitoring sales targets, budgets, and operating expenses.
6. Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle complaints professionally and maintain high service standards.
7. Familiarity with applicable retail industry regulations including occupational health and safety requirements.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with staff, suppliers, and management.
9. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.
10. A valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
11. Availability to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays.
