About the Opportunity
Swanson Industries has spent more than 70 years solving hydraulic problems for heavy industry - growing into a specialist in cylinder manufacturing, repair, and surface technology trusted across mining, defence, marine, and agriculture.
We're looking for an Apprentice Fitter & Machinist to join our Lambton team, starting December/January. Our Mackay workshop specialises in hydraulic cylinder repair, rebuild, and maintenance for high-load applications used in the mining and industrial equipment that keeps operations across Central Queensland running. You'll be learning the trade hands-on, working through inspection, precision machining, and reassembly on components that can't afford to fail.
You won't be figuring this out on your own. Through our Elevate Apprenticeship Program, you'll have a mentor in your corner, structured learning through the Elevate Academy, and a wider community of apprentices across Questas Group going through the same journey.
Your Responsibilities
- Work alongside senior fitters and machinists on hydraulic cylinder repair and rebuild
- Learn precision machining techniques and equipment
- Assist with inspection and fault-finding on hydraulic components
- Support reassembly and testing processes to restore components to specification
- Attend training programs and courses to build your trade knowledge and skills
About You
- Minimum Year 10 High Sch-ol Certificate
- Curious about how machines and mechanical systems work
- Comfortable with maths, and good with your hands
- Careful and precise — accuracy matters in this trade
- A clear communicator who enjoys working with people
- Motivated, reliable, and ready to learn
