Are you an electrical engineer ready to accelerate Australia's energy transition? AMPYR Australia is looking for a sharp, commercially-minded Trading Operations Analyst to join our Sydney-based Energy Markets team at a pivotal moment in the build-out of our battery energy storage portfolio.
This is a rare opportunity to sit at the intersection of electrical engineering, trading, and commercial performance—working on some of the most ambitious BESS projects in the country, including the 1,000 MWh Bulabul project in NSW and a rapidly growing pipeline exceeding 5,000 MWh of energy storage.
About AMPYR Australia
AMPYR is a leader in renewable energy development and asset management, with over 3 GW of projects under management globally spanning wind, solar, hydro and bioenergy. In Australia, AMPYR owns and operates more than 140 behind-the-meter solar PV sites—one of the largest portfolios in the country—and is rapidly scaling its energy storage pipeline. AMPYR is part of AGP Sustainable Real Assets (AGP), a global fund and asset management group headquartered in Singapore with over 500 employees across Australia, UK, Europe, US and India.
The Role
Reporting to the Trading & Operations Platform Manager, you will play a central role in bridging asset operations, electrical engineering, trading, and commercial performance across AMPYR's BESS and renewable energy fleet. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position that spans contract management, market monitoring, electrical systems oversight, and operations-maintenance coordination.
What You'll Do
Asset & Electrical Engineering Performance
- Monitor day-to-day BESS operational, electrical and commercial performance—cycling, degradation, asset health, electrical limits, equipment availability and force majeure conditions.
- Maintain performance dashboards drawing on SCADA, AEMO, OEM, network, asset management and trading system data.
- Review and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical specifications, grid connection requirements and standards, translating them into operational, trading and compliance processes.
- Support determination and review of circuits, transformers, circuit-breakers, switchgear and connection infrastructure as they relate to trading constraints, asset limitations and maintenance planning.
- Contribute to weekly and monthly reporting on asset performance, equipment availability, trading outcomes and financial KPIs.
Market Operations
- Monitor NEM spot market outcomes daily and identify trends that inform trading strategy.
- Prepare and facilitate weekly stakeholder meetings covering asset performance, electrical constraints, market dynamics and key risks.
- Contribute to risk assessment frameworks covering grid events, forced outages, equipment limitations and maintenance windows.
- Optimise asset availability with offtakers and partners given market conditions, equipment capacity and operating modes.
Operations, Maintenance & Contractor Interface
- Supervise and coordinate O&M interfaces for BESS, power conversion systems, transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, working with contractors, OEMs and network service providers.
- Monitor planned and unplanned outages, defects, alarms and equipment limitations, escalating where operational, safety or commercial impacts arise.
- Support commissioning-to-operations transitions, post-COD performance testing and operational readiness reviews.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure operations comply with NEM/AEMO requirements, grid connection obligations, technical standards and internal risk controls.
- Own key operational datasets and ensure data integrity across asset operations, maintenance coordination and reporting.
About You
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 3–4 years' experience in renewable energy or BESS asset operations, power systems, electrical asset management, trading operations or market analytics.
- Experience operating and trading real-time grid-connected energy assets (batteries, hydro or gas).
- Hands-on experience with SCADA data, grid connection constraints, NEM/AEMO processes and equipment operating parameters.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of electrical power systems and energy technologies including BESS, solar, wind and hydro.
- Ability to interpret electrical specifications, single-line diagrams, technical drawings and grid connection requirements.
- Working knowledge of BESS architecture: inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, telemetry and grid interfaces.
- Intuitive understanding of NEM market operations, bidding behaviour and spot market dynamics.
- Commercially focused—able to connect physical asset conditions and electrical limits to financial performance.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to produce clear, technically accurate reports.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel; familiarity with SQL, Python or Power BI is a bonus.
What We Offer
- Sydney CBD office with hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
- Competitive compensation package with a performance-based bonus.
- Genuine opportunities for career growth within a fast-scaling, international organisation.
- Work that matters—directly contributing to Australia's clean energy future.
