About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Place and Design Officer to join our Landscape and Design team within the Capital Projects department. In this role, you will contribute to the planning, design and delivery of high-quality public realm projects across shopping centres, streets, parks, playgrounds and open spaces. You will play a key role in shaping places that are functional, sustainable and reflective of Boroondara’s unique character, while balancing community needs and strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
You will lead the development of public realm design solutions from concept through to construction documentation, ensuring designs meet community expectations and industry standards. The role involves managing projects end-to-end, including budgets, timelines and multidisciplinary teams, as well as contributing to strategic planning, policy development and open space master planning. You will work closely with stakeholders to deliver innovative, well-considered outcomes and ensure effective consultation and communication across projects.
You will also foster strong partnerships with internal teams, consultants, contractors, businesses and the community, ensuring project outcomes align with Council’s vision while enhancing user experience and satisfaction.
About You
You are an experienced and creative professional with a background in landscape architecture, urban design or project management. You bring strong expertise in placemaking, public realm design and community consultation, along with demonstrated experience delivering projects from inception to completion. Your strengths include stakeholder engagement, problem solving and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
You are a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to innovation and continuous improvement. Your passion for creating great public spaces and your commitment to delivering community-focused outcomes will see you succeed in this role.
