We're on the lookout for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our in-house legal team and support the business across a broad range of legal, governance, risk and compliance matters.
This is far more than a traditional property or franchising role. As a trusted business partner, you'll work with stakeholders across operations, franchising, property, construction, marketing, people & culture and executive leadership, providing practical advice that drives commercial outcomes and manages risk.
If you enjoy variety, partnering with stakeholders and influencing decisions in a fast-paced environment, this could be your next move.
Who are we?
Minor DKL Food Group is a leading Australian retail food franchisor and the Australian subsidiary of Thai-listed Minor International PCL. Home to iconic brands including The Coffee Club and Veneziano Coffee, our network spans more than 400 stores across 11 countries and employs over 5,000 people.
What is the role?
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer to make a real impact across the business. You'll handle a diverse range of legal matters while strengthening governance, supporting strategic initiatives and helping leaders navigate risk, all as part of a collaborative team.
Key responsibilities include:
-
Providing practical legal advice across franchising, leasing, construction, employment, marketing, privacy, consumer law, compliance and general commercial matters.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements and supporting strategic initiatives and transactions.
- Supporting the corporate governance framework, including policy development, reviews and governance initiatives.
- Partnering with leaders to identify, assess and manage legal, regulatory and operational risks.
- Advising on compliance obligations, regulatory developments and health and safety matters.
- Supporting compliance with the Franchising Code of Conduct and other legislative requirements.
- Managing disputes, litigation and claims, including engaging external legal providers where required.
- Building strong relationships and acting as a trusted adviser to stakeholders at all levels.
- Providing day-to-day guidance, technical support and mentoring to the Paralegal.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a commercially astute lawyer who thrives in a dynamic environment and can balance legal risk with commercial realities.
While experience in franchising and leasing is advantageous, we're equally interested in candidates with strong commercial, governance, compliance, risk or in-house legal experience. We value adaptable lawyers who can apply their expertise across a diverse range of matters.
You will have:
- 6+ years PQE in commercial law, franchising, property, governance, compliance or related areas.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to provide practical, business-focused advice.
- Experience partnering with stakeholders across various functions and seniority levels.
- A sound understanding of corporate governance, compliance and risk management principles.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior legal professionals.
- Bachelor of Laws and a current Australian practising certificate (Queensland preferred).
- Experience managing disputes and litigation is highly regarded but not essential.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- A proactive, adaptable approach and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Bonus points if you love food, coffee and the hospitality industry!
