Job description
2 x Full-time Indian cuisine chef position is available at Asees Indian Restaurant, located in Harris Park, NSW. The job applicant must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in Indian cuisine, along with the relevant qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute the preparation and cooking of a wide variety of Indian dishes, including meat, poultry, seafood, vegetarian, and vegan options.
- Ensure food is prepared according to standard recipes, presentation expectations, portion sizes, and within quality guidelines.
- Prepare ingredients by portioning, chopping, marinating, and storing food items as per daily requirements.
- Manage food preparation and cooking activities to ensure efficient kitchen operations during peak service times.
- Apply seasoning and spices in line with traditional Indian cooking methods and personal expertise to ensure flavour consistency.
- Create and contribute to the development of new menu items, including seasonal specials and innovative Indian dishes.
- Implement effective stock control, including ordering supplies, rotating stock, and minimising wastage.
- Maintain food storage standards by using temperature-controlled storage and hygienic food handling practices.
- Ensure the kitchen is maintained in a clean, safe, and organised manner at all times.
- Adhere to all food safety and occupational health and safety (OHS) standards and procedures.
- Collaborate with the restaurant management to improve overall kitchen operations and contribute to business development initiatives.
Skills and Experience Required:
- A Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification is essential.
- Minimum of 2 years of full-time professional experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen, specialising in Indian cuisine.
- Expertise in preparing traditional Indian dishes using a variety of cooking techniques including tandoori, curries, and regional specialties.
- Proven ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations and OHS practices.
- Creative, reliable, and highly motivated with a passion for Indian food.
