Visiting Medical Officer in General Practice - Glen Innes District Hospital
Glen Innes District Hospital is located within the Hunter New England Local Health District, part of the Glen Innes Severn Shire local government area. We are calling Specialist General Practitioners with experience in emergency medicine to work with us.
The facility is a 24-bed Level 3 rural hospital, incorporating a two-bay, four-bed Emergency Department (ED). In addition to emergency care, the hospital provides medical, obstetric, and day surgery services. Within the ED, a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) is available onsite on Fridays and is strongly supported by Armidale Rural Referral Hospital’s Emergency Department.
The Emergency Department is currently undergoing a $50 million redevelopment. This project will deliver a modern, purpose-built ED designed to support flexible clinical services and contemporary models of care for the Glen Innes community, both now and into the future. Emergency services will continue to operate at a Level 3 role delineation, managing minor injuries, as well as resuscitation and stabilisation prior to transfer to higher-level facilities.
Armidale Rural Referral Hospital serves as the primary escalation and referral centre. The ED is also equipped with a camera link to retrieval services, allowing real-time access to specialist support for higher-acuity cases.
Glen Innes is located on the New England Highway, approximately six hours north of Sydney and four hours south of Brisbane. Known as the “Celtic Capital of Australia,” it is a picturesque agricultural town surrounded by World Heritage-listed national parks and renowned sapphire fields. The region experiences cool summers, crisp, English-style winters, and vibrant seasonal changes in spring and autumn.
