About the School:
Lockhart State School is located at Lockhart River.
The Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire encompasses 354,000 hectares of country, comprising a myriad of pristine waterways, silver sanded tropical beaches and internationally significant rainforest areas famed for their rich biodiversity.
Located on the east coast of Cape York Peninsula approximately 800 km north of Cairns by road, the residents of the shire are mostly from six traditional family groups.
Lockhart State School is a Kindy - Year 12 school with a current enrolment of 137 students with approximately 96% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.

The preferred location for the successful applicant to be domiciled is in Lockhart River, however as accommodation is limited at this time, share accommodation with one other is the only available option.
Alternatively, the successful applicant could be based in a Cairns school but would need to travel to Lockhart River on a regular basis for at least a week at a time.
Travel and accommodation will be provided for the visits to community if the successful applicant is Cairns based.
Your Role and Responsibilities:
As Head of Special Education Services, you will have responsibility for the following key tasks:
Managing and coordinating the delivery of high-quality advice and support provided by the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program.
Lead and manage the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program to provide advice to classroom teachers for students with disability as needed.
Provide high-quality advice to the school leadership team, classroom teachers and other school staff to develop, plan and implement effective reasonable adjustments for students with disability.
Coordinate and provide intensive targeted teaching for students requiring intervention.
Provide, support and/or coordinate case management for students who require extensive or substantial

Be a strong communicator
Have exceptional time management and record keeping skills
Have previous experience relevant to the role
Be flexible around travel and accommodation requirements and availability
Be adaptable and flexible and understand the complexities of working in a remote location
