Head of Unit – General Medicine

Join SALHN as Head of Unit providing senior clinical and operational leadership across General Medicine at Flinders Medical Centre, setting clear standards for patient care, safety, and outcomes.
As an experienced Senior Clinician, you will:
In collaboration with the Clinical Director, ensures the effective and efficient operation of the team.
Ensures that each consumer’s care has a direct line of responsibility to a Consultant (in their relevant specialty).
Contributes to the development of systems for quality improvement activities – including, examination of key performance indicators and clinical audits.
Responsible, with the Clinical Director, for reviewing critical incidents/adverse events, complaints, allegations and other sources of feedback about service quality and the propagation of recommendations if required.
Responsible, with the college supervisor, for ensuring Trainee Medical Officers are supported in their training obligations and provided with the required training.
Responsible for clinical supervision and line management of medical staff allocated to the team.
Manages major budget allocation and expenditure with the assistance of the Clinical Director, and contributes to budget preparation, management of allocated funds and preparation of capital works proposals in collaboration with the Clinical Director.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Appropriate Specialist Qualification for Consultant/Senior Consultant registrable as a Specialist with the Medical Board of South Australia.
Proven leadership skills and an ability to motivate others.
Proven ability to successfully lead professional groups to achieve best practice clinical outcomes.
Highly developed analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to make sound management decisions.
Demonstrated capacity to effectively lead in an environment of dynamic change and financial constraint.
Demonstrated experience in a Senior Clinical leadership role.
Demonstrated experience in the planning and provision of health services.
