Shape the commercial foundations of WA’s clean energy future
The
Commercial Contracts Lead (Energy Projects) role acts as a commercial contract lead on major energy projects. As the Commercial Contracts Lead (Energy Projects) you will be responsible for structuring energy projects, engaging with stakeholders, reviewing contract departures, leading contract negotiations and managing strategic commercial contracts to deliver commercially robust outcomes.
Your role in action:
- Lead the commercial structuring of energy projects, including development of contracting models, risk allocation positions, and market engagement strategies for power purchase agreements, fuel supply agreements, works agreements and other related energy project agreements.
- Lead contract negotiations, review contract departures and manage contract delivery timeframes.
- Instruct and coordinate internal and external legal advisors, ensuring legal documentation reflects agreed commercial principles and risk allocation.
- Oversee post-award contract management through effective contract performance monitoring, management of contractor variations and claims and preparing and implementing Contract Management Plans.
- Ensure compliance with Horizon Power governance frameworks, delegation requirements and procurement obligations.
- Influence outcomes by building strong stakeholder relationships and delivering trusted commercial advice across internal and external stakeholders.
What sets you apart:
- Tertiary qualifications in law, business or commerce, with experience in energy, utilities or infrastructure sectors highly regarded.
- Extensive experience structuring, drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts (e.g. PPAs, fuel supply, infrastructure or major services agreements).
- Strong capability to lead commercial outcomes, including evaluating risk allocation and driving value optimisation.
- Proven experience developing contracting strategies and engaging with the market on large or complex projects.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct legal advisors and translate legal risk into clear, informed commercial decision-making.
- Experience managing contract variations, claims and dispute positions in high-value contracts, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders in time-sensitive negotiations.
