The Role
As a Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will play a key role in supporting mechanical engineering activities across various stages, including research, design, manufacture, construction, operation, and maintenance. You will collaborate closely with engineers and other team members to ensure the successful completion of projects. Additionally, the role’s automation component is responsible for assisting the scoping, designing, development and delivery of the automation and control systems of the business to optimise its production operations with the goal to maximise efficiency, improve product quality and reduce waste/cost. Your contributions will be essential in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our operations.
This is a full time permanent position.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the scoping, design, development and delivery of the production automation and control systems, mechanical equipment and plant,
- Draft drawings, plans, and designs for mechanical engineering projects under the guidance of Mechanical Engineers,
- Continuously optimise existing processes by identifying automation and control improvements
- Supervise installations of new and modified plant and equipment including integration of the control systems,
- Provide PLC/Scada programming support for automation projects and process improvements,
- Manage electrical contractors to ensure installation of control systems are completed correctly, additionally, overseeing and coordinating project labour and the procurement of materials, plant, and equipment,
- Perform I/O testing of new automation systems prior to commissioning,
- Select tools and equipment,
- Calculate material costs and quantities, as well as determining machine requirements,
- Coordinate and oversee the inspection and maintenance of machinery and equipment,
- Gather and analyse data, conducting intricate calculations, and creating diagrams,
- Support the maintenance team to resolve control and automation issues in a timely manner,
- Verify that designs and completed work meet specifications, regulations, and contractual requirements,
- Work with 3rd party service providers (Deltatec, Tetrapak, Krones etc) to oversee the delivery of automation and control systems and integration of 3rd party equipment to our Scada systems,
- Assist with the design and development of a fully digitised production control system,
- Help to deliver new factory projects in other countries by assisting with the scoping, design, development, delivery and commissioning of the automation and control systems.
Your Skills & Experience
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral), high level interpersonal skills and sound judgment.
- Proficiency in using measurement tools, equipment, and inspection techniques.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Proven experience working with high-speed automation equipment, ideally within food, beverage or dairy industries.
- Ability to work efficiently, manage time, prioritise workload and operate within a dynamic organisation.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving & strong initiative capability.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Related degree of Bachelor of Engineering, Automation Engineering or minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
