Title: Kitchen and Pizza Crew, Casual, Arana Hills and local food trucks
We make pizza the traditional way. Come and learn how.
The Wood Fired Oven is a family run wood-fired pizza business in Arana Hills. We started in 2018 with one food truck in a local park. These days there's the restaurant plus a truck that runs Bardon on Wednesdays, Ashgrove on Thursdays and Grinstead Park on Fridays. Everything is made from scratch. Our own dough, fermented about 48 hours, cooked over spotted gum and ironbark.
Three casual roles open. Tell us which one grabs you and we'll go from there. Most of our crew end up learning all three anyway.
Pizza Maker: make the thing people drive across town for
Building and topping pizzas to order, keeping your section stocked, serving takeaway orders from the counter. You'll learn our gluten-free process too, which we take seriously. It looks easy from the other side of the counter. It isn't, and that's half the fun. Restaurant and food trucks.
Dough Stretcher: want to be rolling in the dough?
Stretching dough fast and consistently so the pizzas keep flowing when it's flat out. Prep support, keeping the kitchen stocked and clean. Get good at this and you'll have a party trick for life. Restaurant and food trucks.
Dishwasher: wanted, someone dishy
Yes, we know how it sounds. Keeping the wash-up on top of it, clearing tables, cleaning down at the end of the night. It's where most of our crew start, and it's the fastest way to learn every other station in the place. Arana Hills restaurant only. This is an easy job that quickly roles into learning other tasks like dough stretching and helping cook on the grill.
The shifts
Evenings, Tuesday to Saturday. The restaurant runs 4pm to 8pm, a bit later Friday and Saturday. The trucks run 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Everything's cleaned down and locked up between 8:30 and 9. Suits school and uni students.
What we're after
You turn up on time and ready to go
You're happy to learn. We'll teach you the rest
You keep your head when it gets busy, and Friday nights get busy
You're good with people, customers and crew
You're fine on your feet for a full shift
All black uniform, fully covered shoes, hair net in the kitchen
No experience needed for dishwasher or dough stretcher. For pizza maker it helps, but we train everyone properly regardless.
You'll need a food handling certificate. It's done online and takes about an hour. We'll point you at it once you're on board, and you'll have it sorted before your first shift.
What you get
Real training, not thrown on a station and told to figure it out
Cross-training across the kitchen and the front counter
A Team Trainer pathway if you want to grow into training others
A crew that actually gets on
We're not just in the food business, we're in the people business. A lot of our team start here young and leave a few years later with skills they use for life. That's the point.
