About the role:
This role is a Full-time, Fixed-Term role until 31 Dec 2027.
The Principal Cloud Architect provides senior specialist leadership in the design and governance of cloud architecture across Health Technology Services, ensuring cloud solutions are secure, scalable, resilient and optimised for cost and performance. The role plays a key part in shaping cloud architecture standards and practices that support HTS's role as a shared services provider to Victoria's public health sector.
As part of the HTS Architecture team, the role provides authoritative advice on cloud platform design, migration and optimisation, supports major initiatives through architectural options and risk assessment, and ensures cloud solutions align with security, governance and financial expectations. The Principal Cloud Architect contributes to the ongoing maturity and consistency of cloud architecture across HTS.

About you:

Ensures cloud designs align with security, risk and governance expectations, and that architectural decisions are repeatable and auditable across services.

Identifies and drives opportunities to uplift cloud architecture practices, including modern approaches to resilience, automation, standardisation and cost optimisation.

Provides clear, authoritative advice on cloud architectural decisions, trade‑offs and constraints to stakeholders across HTS and delivery partners.

Leads cloud architectural decision‑making for complex initiatives, balancing performance, reliability, security and cost optimisation in a large, multi‑provider shared services environment.
Qualification/Specialist Experise
Tertiary qualification in information technology, computer science, engineering or a related discipline.
Recognised professional certifications in enterprise, infrastructure or cloud architecture (for example, certifications aligned with enterprise architecture frameworks or major cloud platforms).

Equivalent senior professional experience in cloud architecture will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
Mandatory:

Demonstrated experience providing senior specialist cloud architecture advice in complex environments, including design of secure, scalable and resilient cloud platforms and solutions.

Demonstrated experience shaping cloud architecture standards, patterns or guardrails, and advising on cloud migration, optimisation and cost‑effective use of public cloud services at scale.
Desirable:

Experience working with major public cloud platforms in shared services or multi‑tenant environments.

Experience integrating cloud architecture with cybersecurity, governance and financial management requirements.

Experience supporting major initiatives through cloud architecture options analysis, risk assessment and t ransition into operational service.
