As our Work, Health, Safety and Rehabilitation Coordinator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of staff and stakeholders in a dynamic correctional setting.
Reporting to the Work, Health, Safety and Rehabilitation Specialist, you will provide operational, administrative and coordination support to help deliver workplace health and safety, injury management and return to work programs, including, but not limited to:
- Assist the WHS & R Specialist in implementing and maintaining workplace health, safety and wellbeing systems, programs and initiatives.
- Support the identification, assessment and management of workplace hazards and risks, including physical and psychosocial hazards.
- Assist with workplace inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations, including gathering evidence, maintaining documentation and monitoring corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records within incident reporting, risk management and workers’ compensation systems.
- Monitor outstanding corrective actions and follow up with managers to ensure completion within agreed timeframes.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic), Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 (Vic), associated regulations and organisational policies.
- Support the administration of Workers’ Compensation claims, including preparing documentation, maintaining claim records, liaising with insurers and assisting with wage reimbursement processes.
- Assist in coordinating Return to Work (RTW) programs by preparing suitable duties plans, scheduling case reviews and monitoring employee progress in consultation with managers and treating practitioners.
- Liaise with employees, managers, rehabilitation providers, medical practitioners, WorkSafe Agent representatives and other stakeholders to support effective injury management outcomes.
- Assist in monitoring trends relating to incidents, injuries, occupational violence and aggression (OVA), psychosocial hazards and workers’ compensation claims, preparing reports as required.
- Support the delivery of health, safety and wellbeing training, toolbox talks and awareness initiatives.
- Assist with Health and Safety Committee and Health and Safety Representative (HSR) meetings, including preparation of agendas, minutes and follow-up actions.
- Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging hazard, near miss and incident reporting and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all incidents, hazards, injuries and non-conformances are reported and recorded accurately and within required timeframes.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee medical and workers’ compensation information in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements.
- Undertake other duties consistent with the level and responsibilities of the position.

To succeed in this role, you will possess the following:
Essential:
- Tertiary Qualifications Relevant to the role
- Demonstrated experience providing administrative or operational support within Workplace Health and Safety, Workers’ Compensation or Return to Work functions.
- Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic), Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 (Vic) and associated legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with incident reporting, investigations, risk assessments and corrective action monitoring.
- Experience supporting Workers’ Compensation claims administration and Return to Work coordination.
- Well-developed organisational and administrative skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with employees, managers and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and experience using incident, risk or Workers’ Compensation management systems.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable:
- Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Work Health and Safety, Injury Management, Human Resources or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience
- Experience working within corrections, healthcare, emergency services, manufacturing or other high-risk environments.
- Return to Work Coordinator Certification.
- ICAM (Incident Cause Analysis Method) training or equivalent incident investigation training.
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Mental Health First Aid accreditation
