Senior Manager - Actuarial - Banking and Capital Markets
The opportunity
As our Senior Manager or Director –Financial Risk – Banking (Credit Risk and Climate Risk), you’ll work with clients in Financial Services to lead the management and measurement of financial risks including credit risk and climate risk. Engagements will vary and will commonly be centred around strategic risk initiatives, large-scale transformation, regulatory change, and the development, validation, and use of models.
You will work closely with other financial services risk practitioners, technology consulting, and financial accounting teams to support clients’ highly specific and complex requirements. You will play a leading role across a portfolio of projects, combining deep technical expertise with strong commercial judgment to shape client solutions, oversee delivery quality, and build trusted senior stakeholder relationships. You will also help grow the practice through business development, thought leadership, and the coaching and development of high-performing teams.
This is a hybrid role based in Warrang – Sydney or Naarm - Melbourne
Your key responsibilities
You’ll provide financial risk consulting services to clients mainly within the banking sector. Your responsibilities will include leading complex engagements, overseeing delivery quality and commercial outcomes, building senior client relationships, and delivering strategic advice that helps clients manage risk, optimise performance, and drive transformation.
You’ll have opportunities to:
- Lead complex financial risk engagements across a diverse range of clients, delivering high-quality outcomes
- Shape and oversee the development of financial risk models, methodologies, and broader risk management solutions tailored to client needs
- Support our clients to uplift model risk management and AI model risk management
- Work with our global teams to bring leading practice insights into to our local clients
- Provide strategic advice on risk management, regulatory change, and transformation priorities, including engagement with senior client stakeholders
- Drive business development by identifying opportunities, contributing to proposals, and expanding existing client relationships
- Coach and develop team members, foster an inclusive high-performing culture, and support the growth of the broader practice
Skills and attributes for success
- Qualifications and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field such as Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Engineering or a related field. A professional qualification (e.g., CFA or FIAA) is desirable, with typically 8+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting, banking or financial risk management. Experience with coding, programming, data analytics, and AI/GenAI is highly valued.
- Skills and Abilities: Proven analytical and problem-solving skills; strong quantitative abilities; proficiency with programming languages such as R and/or Python. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex information into practical insights for senior non-specialists and executive audiences.
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the banking sector. Experience in areas such as credit risk , capital and stress testing, climate risk (climate scenario analysis and disclosure requirements) risk management frameworks (including credit risk, model risk and AI risk), controls, prudential standards, and regulatory change is advantageous.
